Our Story

A Boy and His Bar

I have always enjoyed lifting heavy and pushing my limits. In 2003, I was confronted with a crisis: no more squatting due to reduced shoulder mobility and recurring injuries to my wrists and elbows. I have been a gym owner since 2001, and we have owned every piece of lower body equipment at one point or another. No matter how much weight I used or how many reps I did, every option seemed to be a distant second place to straight bar squats.

“I went to the Arnold Fitness Expo in 2003, hoping to find a solution in the expo, and experienced No Luck. I was out of options and completely frustrated—I wondered if I would ever squat again in my life . . . ”

Designing the Marrs-Bar

I met with a welder to design a squat bar that would rest in a low bar position without placing any trauma to the shoulders, elbows or wrists. The Marrs-Bar was born in 2004. It weighed 85lbs and was ugly as sin—but it worked.

We designed the bar for my use only, and never intended to market to the public. For the next 13 years of trial and error, we continually made improvements to the bar. In 2017, a series of fateful events led us to bring the Marrs-Bar out of the closet and introduce to the public. The Marrs-Bar made its debut at the Arnold Fitness Expo on March 1st, 2019.
